First Week at Babcock Power: A Week of New Beginnings

“Every new journey starts with a little excitement, a little uncertainty, and a lot of learning.”

It’s been a week since I joined Babcock Power APAC India Pvt Ltd, and I thought I’d share a few first impressions—not as a review, but as memories I’d like to look back on someday.

From Passing By… to Working There

For years, while driving along OMR, I’d often look at the World Trade Center building and think, “That’s an impressive place.”

I never imagined that one day I’d be sitting on the 14th floor, looking out at the OMR skyline on one side and the sea on the other. It’s one of those small moments that quietly reminds you how life can surprise you.

Sometimes, the places we pass every day become part of our own journey.

An Onboarding Experience That Felt Personal

Joining a new company can be overwhelming, but my onboarding experience was smooth and well organized.

A sincere thank you to Elizabeth, Sugumar, and Mercy for making the entire process seamless. From the documentation to the first-day guidance, everything was thoughtfully planned, allowing me to focus on settling into my new role.

First impressions matter, and they certainly made a great one.

The Underground Adventure

One unexpected discovery…

The underground parking!

From the entrance gate to my parking spot feels like its own little road trip. I haven’t measured it (yet 😄), but it certainly feels close to a kilometre.

Good thing my bike gets a little extra drive before I start my workday!

A Desk That Brought Back Memories ✏️

When I reached my desk, I found a welcome stationery kit waiting for me.

  • Scissors.
  • Pencils.
  • A notepad.
  • An eraser.
  • A sharpener.

It might sound simple, but it brought back memories.

For the past several years, most of my notes have lived in cloud drives, digital notebooks, and online collaboration tools. Seeing actual stationery on my desk reminded me that sometimes the simplest tools are still the most satisfying.

There’s something timeless about writing ideas on paper before turning them into code.

Exploring the Food Court 🍛

The campus has a large food court with plenty of options.

During my first week, I tried Geetham, and I was pleasantly surprised by both the quality and the reasonable pricing.

Finding good food during your first week at a new workplace is always a small victory!

Saying Hello to the Sun Again ☀️

This might be my favourite change.

For the past few months, I had been working night shifts and overlapping schedules.

This week, I left the office at 5:30 PM.

And for the first time in a long while…

I drove home while the sun was still shining.

It sounds like a small thing.

But sometimes it’s the small things that make the biggest difference.

“Sir” and “Madam”

One cultural difference I noticed is how respectfully people address one another as “Sir” and “Madam.”

Coming from organizations where first names were the norm, it definitely felt new to me.

Neither approach is right or wrong—they simply reflect different workplace cultures.

I’m looking forward to adapting and becoming part of this new environment.

Looking Forward to Meeting Jennifer

One person I was particularly looking forward to meeting was my reporting manager, Jennifer Pasquariello, based in the United States.

Unfortunately, she was on vacation during my first week, so our first conversation will have to wait a little longer.

I’m excited to connect with her soon and learn more about the team’s goals, the website strategy, and how I can contribute.

First Week Reflection

Every company has its own culture.

Every workplace has its own rhythm.

And every new beginning comes with its own learning curve.

After just one week, I’m not here to say I know everything about the organization—I clearly don’t.

But what I can say is that everyone I’ve met has been welcoming, helpful, and supportive, making this transition much easier than I expected.

I’m excited about what’s ahead, eager to keep learning, and looking forward to contributing in meaningful ways.

Here’s to many more weeks of learning, building, and growing.

Thank you, Babcock Power, for a wonderful first week.
